Flare Measurement Challenges and Methodologies

چکیده
There has been an increased awareness by oil and gas companies in North America towards emissions monitoring and reduction for both environmental and economical reasons. For years, several countries worldwide have had stringent regulation in place. Regulations were implemented back in 1993 relating to the measurement of fuel and flare gas for calculation of CO2 tax in the petroleum activities on the Norwegian continental shelf. Inevitably, oil companies operating on the region had to comply to this regulation. With new government legislation, producers, refineries and chemical companies have been looking for a cost effective solution to reduce emissions, and to provide tighter control for both leak detection, and mass balance. To tolerate the extreme process conditions often found in a flare line, yet provide accurate measurement to comply with regulators such as the Energy and Utilities Board, the technology of choice is of most importance. Several metering technologies have been tried and tested, and continue to be with little success today. To understand why the results have been dismal, one needs to fully understand the application and the limitations of the various flow-metering technologies used.

On the measurement of solute concentrations in 2-D flow tank experiments
In this study we describe and compare photometric and resistivity measurement methodologies to determine solute concentrations in porous media flow tank experiments. The first method is the photometric method, which directly relates digitally measured intensities of a tracer dye to concentrations without previously converting 5 the intensities to optical densities. This enables an effective pro...
متن کاملI-27: Management of Poor Responders:Current and Past Recommended Strategy
The management of poor responders in IVF cycles is extremely controversial due to their inadequate response to controlled ovarian hyperstimulation.. A low ovarian response may be idiopathic or may be associated with many different factors including age, diminished ovarian reserve, endometriosis and prior ovarian surgery, and a reported incidence 9-24% of IVF patients. Several strategies have be...
متن کاملMethod integration: An approach to develop agent oriented methodologies
Agent oriented software engineering (AOSE) is an emerging field in computer science and proposes some systematic ideas for multi agent systems analysis, implementation and maintenance. Despite the various methodologies introduced in the agent-oriented software engineering, the main challenges are defects in different aspects of methodologies. According to the defects resulted from weaknesses ...
متن کاملA Rayleigh Scatter-Based Ocular Flare Analysis Meter for Flare Photometry of the Anterior Chamber.
PURPOSE Existing flare photometers are based on the Tyndall effect, which requires sophisticated laser photometry. The ocular flare analysis meter (OFAM) is a nonlaser photometer that uses quantitative Rayleigh scatter and absorption from visible light to compute a flare value. This study is designed to correlate OFAM measurements with qualitative measurements of flare in vitro and in vivo. M...
متن کاملEnvironmental Pollution and Measurement of Gas Flaring
A flare is a combustion device that uses air or steam to burn associated, unwanted or excess gases and liquids released during production or by pressure relief valves during unplanned over-pressuring of plant equipment in many industrial operations, such as oil-gas extraction, refineries, chemical plants, coal industry and landfills. Several environmental problems caused by gas flaring such as ...
